Asian performers feature strongly in 2017 PIAF

The Perth International Arts Festival’s 2017 program will feature a number of performances and screenings from Asia.

Two Japanese films, After the Storm and The Red Turtle will screen as part of the Lotterywest Festival Films.

After the Storm is the latest film from renowned Japanese film director Hirokazu Koreeda, and is based on family relationships during a natural disaster.

The Red Turtle, about the adventures of a man who washes up on a deserted island, is the latest instalment from the animation film studio, Studio Ghibli, and is directed by Oscar-winning director Michaël Dudok de Wit.

The festival will also include a performance by Korean post-rock band Jambinai on 23 February, and by Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes on 24 February.

A theatre/musical event, called the Manganiyar Classroom, which brings together a group of Rajasthani schoolchildren to perform in their ancient folk music traditions, will also be part of the festival program.

Further information is available on the PIAF website, including in translation.
