Change proposal in the School of Humanities at the University of Tasmania

On Tuesday 27 May the President of the Asian Studies Association of Australia, Associate Professor David Hundt, wrote to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Tasmania to express the ASAA’s deep concerns about the proposed changes to the teaching of languages and Asian Studies. The proposed changes will particularly affect the Indonesian teaching program at a time when Australia is trying to strengthen its ties with our most important neighbour.

The ASAA has urged UTas to reconsider this proposed change, and instead to support the staff who are doing the vital work of engaging Tasmanians in the study of vital languages such as Indonesian.
