The following statement has been prepared by the Malaysia and Singapore Society of Australia (MASSA), a body associated with the Asian Studies Association of Australia, in response to the recent decision by the Singaporean government to block access to East Asia Forum (EAF).

The decision was made due the government’s objections to some of the contents of an article written by Associate Professor Michael Barr (Flinders University), a former office holder of the ASAA and a world-renowned historian of Singapore.

The statement has been posted on the MASSA Facebook group page, as well as the official Facebook group page of the Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore Studies Group (MSB, part of the US-based Association for Asian Studies), and it was prepared in consultation with Ass Prof Barr.
