Appointment letter for new Asian Studies Review Editors-in-Chief

Dear Jonathan, Elisabeth and Yu,

On behalf of the Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA), I am delighted to confirm that your joint EOI for the position of Editors-in-Chief of the Asian Studies Review (ASR) has been successful. Your single four-year term as editors-in-chief begins on 1 January 2027 and ends on 31 December 2030.

The appointment comes with a $10,000 contribution from the ASAA each year to support the work of the editorial team. These funds will be disbursed once per year and can be used at the discretion of the editors.

As Editors-in-Chief (EIC), you will head the editorial board and are the final decision-makers in most matters to do with the journal, although some decision-making power is usually delegated to other members.

As EICs, you are answerable to the ASAA Executive. Upon taking office, one member of the EIC team will represent the ASR as an ex officio member in the ASAA executive and is expected to attend regular executive and Council meetings.

Congratulations on your appointment!

Dirk Tomsa

Editor-in-Chief, Asian Studies Review, 2024-2026

Dr. Dirk Tomsa is an Associate Professor in Politics at the Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy at La Trobe University.
