About ASAA
Asian Studies Association of Australia
The Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA) is the peak body of university experts and educators on Asia in Australia (ABN 34 058 906 542). The ASAA has been a registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission since 23 January 2022.
Established in 1976, we promote and support the study of Asia in Australian universities and knowledge of Asia among the broader community. Our membership is drawn mainly from academics and students, but also includes industry and government Asia experts.
We take a strong interest in promoting knowledge about Asia in schools and in contributing to state and Commonwealth government policies related to Asia.
We provide informed comment on Asia to a broad public through our bulletin, Asian Currents, and specialist research articles in our journal, Asian Studies Review. Four book series are published under our auspices cover Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia and Women in Asia.
We hold a biennial conference at which our members and other scholars share their latest research and build collaborative networks.
We highly value our international links and encourage the membership of scholars based outside Australia, as well as cooperation with Asian Studies organisations in the region and beyond.
We welcome all new members. As a member, you will receive the Asian Studies Review and be eligible for project grants and reduced conference registration fees.
