The Organisers of the ASAA 2026 Biennial Conference are thrilled to announce that Professor Elora Shehabuddin will be the keynote speaker. Professor Shehabuddin is Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies and Director of the Chowdhury Center for Bangladesh Studies at UC Berkeley. Professor Shehabuddin is currently the Vice President of the Association for Asian Studies and will assume the Presidency for one year beginning in March 2026. She is one of the world’s leading authorities on transnational feminism and the history and politics of feminist movements, especially but not only in the context of South Asia. Professor Shehabuddin has also written extensively on Muslim women, including in her most recent book Sisters in the Mirror: A History of Muslim Women and the Global Politics of Feminism (University of California Press, 2021).
