Reid Prize Juror: Professor Michele Ford
Professor Michele Ford is Director of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre at the University of Sydney, where she researches labour activism in Southeast Asia. Michele’s work has been supported by several ARC grants, including a Future Fellowship on trade union aid in Indonesia, Malaysia and Timor-Leste. She currently leads a Discovery Project on Myanmar’s garment industry and a Linkage Project on gender-based violence in Cambodia’s construction industry. Her latest book is Labor and Politics in Indonesia (Cambridge 2020, with Teri Caraway).

Michele has engaged in extensive consultancy work for the ILO, the international labour movement and the Australian government. She has also served on the ARC College of Experts, and in positions including ASAA Secretary and President of the Indonesia Council. She is currently President of the International Sociological Association’s RC44. Michele sits on the advisory boards of ARI (NUS), GARC (NTU), the Indonesia Project (ANU) and the Cambodia Development Research Institute.
