Indonesia Council Open Conference

At the Indonesia Council meeting held at the ASAA Conference in July 2000 participants were keen to see Indonesianists become a more active and cohesive group. To this end a biennial "open invitation" conference on Indonesia was proposed, to be held in the alternate year to the ASAA Conference, and if possible in conjunction with other conferences.

The Indonesia Council Open Conference (ICOC) is intended to complement existing conferences on Indonesia, such as the annual "Indonesia Update" hosted by the Australian National University, and the Melbourne Indonesian Consortium conferences. Its purpose is to provide a forum for wider participation by individuals working in all areas of Indonesian studies, and to encourage interaction between new and established scholars of Indonesia.
